CBH Green Team Presents Reverse Tashlich

Sunday, October 2, 2022, 2 – 4 PM,
Mason Mill Park, Decatur

Is there really an “away” when we throw something away?

Please register at this link to participate in a CBH Reverse Tashlich cleanup.

This event is inspired by the Tashlich ritual on Rosh Hashanah afternoon, when Jews symbolically cast their errors of the last year into a natural body of water. Ironically, visiting a typically less-than-natural urban stream reminds us that among our lapses is falling short on sh’mirat adamah, the commandment to guard the Earth.

CBH will join more than 200 communities in 15 countries in its Reverse Tashlich cleanup, pioneered by the organization Repair the Sea. For the third year, CBH will be at Mason Mill Park in an intergenerational event, joining partners Repair the World and Ma’alot in gathering tennis balls that have gone astray in the woods sloping toward Burnt Fork Creek. The tennis balls, a product of materials and labor from around the world, do not break down into anything that the web of life can assimilate. They remind us that there is no “away” to throw such things.

Please register for each member of your party, including children* using this link at Repair the World. Depending on registration numbers, adults and teens may be offered the additional option to help free Mason Mill Park from another human scourge, the invasive plants that displace species native to this place.

*Although the checkbox is marked “I’d like to register additional adults,” you check it to register children as well.
