If It’s MLK Sunday, It Must be CBH and MedShare

On Sunday, January 19, for our annual MLK weekend community service project, CBH will be returning to MedShare—for the 12th year in a row!

Why do we keep going back to MedShare? Just ask someone who’s already participated in this annual event. It’s been a great fit for us. The organization performs an amazing and sorely needed service, and the work we do there is incredibly helpful and meaningful—but no advanced skills are required.

MedShare is a 4-star Charity Navigator−rated nonprofit with three US locations including its headquarters in Decatur Georgia. Its mission is to collect, from hospitals and other facilities, unused medical supplies that would otherwise be headed for landfills and distribute them to facilities in developing countries where they are sorely needed. (To learn more about their work, visit www.medshare.org.)

Our CBH group will be sorting and packing supplies at MedShare’s Decatur warehouse facility (indoors and climate-controlled) on SUNDAY, JANUARY 19 FROM 9 AM TO NOON.

Please sign up to join us! This is a fun and rewarding activity, and a good way to honor Dr. King’s legacy by volunteering as an individual or with your family, and representing CBH. For teens, it’s a great way to earn school-required community service hours while learning more about—and helping to address—the inaccessibility of basic medical supplies that we take for granted. Note that for safety reasons, MedShare requires that volunteers be at least 10 years old, and volunteers age 13 or under must be accompanied by an adult.

New volunteers will receive a brief orientation before starting work.

The number of volunteer slots we have is limited to 40, and we always fill up (and even have to turn away some later responders). So secure your spot(s) early!

To sign up, e-mail Jane Diamond at jsdiamond11@gmail.com. Please include the names of all family members who will be volunteering—and the ages of any children.
