On Wednesday, November 29 at 7:00, please join the Tikkun Olam Va'ad's Ending Mass Incarceration (EMI) group for a special presentation and workshop about Policing Alternatives & Diversion Initiative (PAD)

Moki Macias (Executive Director) and Tamia Dame (Director of Communications) will:.

  • provide updates about efforts to address unnecessary incarceration in the Fulton County Jail and to convert the Atlanta City Detention Center into a diversion center;
  • share how PAD's model works to divert people from arrest and detention when their primary issue is a human need such as shelter, food, or mental health services; and
  • work through some common situations that PAD's Community Response Teams address every day, and how our community can help spread the word to our neighbors, friends, congregants, etc.

Please register here if you plan to join us in person.

The mission of the Tikkun Olam Va’ad is to focus attention and efforts around how CBH members can repair the world through education, advocacy and direct action related to causes they care about. Under the umbrella of Tikkun Olam, different teams and team leaders facilitate conversations and activities for CBH members. In addition to developing a calendar of activities and opportunities for membership engagement, these Tikkun Olam Team Leaders may also seek out potential partner organizations who are already working in this space. This will enable us to amplify our reach without reinventing the wheel, and present us with more opportunities for action and an increased capacity to heal the world.

Current Tikkun Olam teams include: CBH Green Team, End Mass Incarceration, LGBTQ+, Racial Justice, Reproductive Freedom and Tzedek. Direct action task forces may be formed for specific, limited-duration initiatives.

Attend our monthly meetings to participate in group discussions of interest and learn what we're doing across the congregation in partnership with our community to heal the world.
