Get The Scoop at the CBH Shavuot celebration this year with something for all ages to enjoy. We will gather on Sunday, May 20 at The Friends School for adult learning classes. And the event will culminate with the spectacle known as “Ice Cream Mountain.” If you have not been present for the making of the mountain, you are in for a "treat" that is both educational and sweet and a little gross, and the kids go bananas which is half the fun.

ADULT LEARNING OFFERINGS
10:00am - 10:50am
1) Love and Religion: Building interfaith and intercultural families
Leader: Rabbi Malka Packer
Are you in an interfaith or intercultural relationship? Join Rabbi Malka Packer-Monroe for an engaging exploration of love and religion in your family, exploring some of the questions, decisions and celebrations facing couples from different backgrounds. This session is intimate and accepting of people with a broad range of beliefs and spiritualities - from deeply religious to atheist – judgement free. Come discuss the struggles and celebrations of bringing two backgrounds together in one family.
2) And the women said no: What Happened at Sinai?
Leader: Rabbi Joshua Lesser
What started at Mt Sinai was a unified experience of relevation and receiving of Torah... And then things went awry. Moses did not return on time. The men demanded that they build a golden calf, and the women said no. We will study this text and its commentary to see if these ancient insights can shed light on this moment and time.
11:00am - 11:50am
1) The Torah of Music; the Vibration of Revelation
Leader: Gayanne Geurin
Revelation at Sinai was not just thoughts and ideas - it was in our bodies. At Sinai, "the entire people saw the sounds and the flashes, the sound of the shofar, and the people saw and shuddered" (Exod 19:15, 20:15). Judaism has deep wellsprings of divine connection through music.Together, we will explore Jewish texts and sound/songs that reflect and illuminate the embodied essence of revelation. We will let the Torah of music, as she reveals herself, guide us in our session today.
2) Behind the Razor Wire: Revelations of the Immigrant Detention System
Leaders: Tamara Caldas and Rabbi Joshua Lesser
On the morning of their return from a visit to Stewart Detention Center, Tamara and Rabbi Josh will teach about the state of immigrant detention in the US and will reflect upon their visit to the detention center located here in Georgia.
