Davidson-Arabia Mountain Nature Preserve
Come work off some of our Thanksgiving dinners and join members of the CBH Green Team as we visit Arabia Mountain and learn the history, hike several of the trails, and learn the biology and geology of this rocky place. We’ll learn how Navy weapons tests, “exploding hot rocks”, dynamite, and endangered plant species fit in to the story of DeKalb’s National Heritage Area.
Two options are available for the hike:
(1) a mostly flat hike of 2 miles to visit the forest, Arabia Lake, and historic building ruins; and
(2) a longer hike of 5 miles that includes the short hike, a moderate climb up the two peaks of Bradley and Arabia, and the trail around Mountain Lake.
Meeting time will be 9:00 A.M. at the kiosk at the Nature Preserve. All attendees should wear sturdy shoes, bring water, a hiking pole with a tip if desired, and a snack for those choosing the longer hike.
