Lauren Rich

Lauren Rich has been a devoted member of CBH almost since the day she first visited 15 years ago. She spearheaded the "Dreamers Campaign" to raise money and pledges so that our congregation could one day have its own home.  Thanks to the tireless and persistent efforts of the building fund committee under her leadership, more than $1 million was pledged. And we finally have our own home! Lauren also served the congregation as a member of the executive board and as president, and she continues to co-chair the building fund committee. She is a retired labor lawyer married to Marian Meyers -- whom she met at CBH! -- and is the proud stepmother of  Marian's daughters, Emma and Talia Meyers. In her spare time, she volutneers teaching English to immigrant and legal resident adults at the International Rescue Committee ESL School. She is also a docent for tours of the Holocaust exhibit at the Breman Jewish Heritage Museum. She has educated hundreds of Atlanta area middle and high school students in these tours, teaching them about the devastating consequences of hatred and bigotry, and how, as citizens, they must work to end hatred and bigotry in today's world.

Love and Acceptance for Over 30 years

Bet Haverim (“House of Friends”) was founded by gays and lesbians as a Jewish home where they could bring their whole selves to fully engage Judaism and Jewish life. Recognizing the value of hospitable, empowering sacred community, CBH grew to enthusiastically embrace all Jews and their loved ones, particularly those who have wandered seeking acceptance. Thirty years later, CBH is a thriving community that celebrates diversity, with a keen understanding of the needs of families and individuals whose history, outlook or situation means they have sometimes not felt comfortable in other Jewish environments. CBH celebrates differences and is committed to inclusion. This distinction is at the very heart of our existence.
