The Central Fire at CBH
Saturday, October 21, 2023 • 6 Cheshvan 5784
7:00 PM - 9:00 PMCBHFor thousands of years, our ancestors gathered around central fires for warmth and shared stories as a source of survival, comfort, entertainment, and passing on ethical traditions. Intuitively they understood that sharing stories keeps us balanced, connected, and emotionally fit.
Join us on October 21st at 7 PM at CBH for our own Central Fire outdoors. We’ll start with Havdalah and snacks, then gather in a circle to share stories.
The theme for this first Central Fire is "Eucatastrophes in Our Lives.” J.R.R. Tolkien invented the term to describe the ebbs and flows of his story arcs. The "Eu" means good in Greek. A Eucatastrophe is a life event that appears to be catastrophic but, with time, turns into something good. Some examples: Getting fired from a job only then to find your dream work, someone breaking off a relationship and then you find your soulmate, a challenging medical diagnosis that stimulates you to explore and find what is most meaningful to you. Such difficulties open doors to new possibilities that would never have been available had it not been for the "bad" event.
Your “firekeeper” for the evening will be Richard Stone, who has been helping people tell their stories for over 30 years.
