Green Gratitude Hike

Sunday, May 29, 2022 28 Iyyar 5782

9:00 AM - 12:00 PMWhere Old Mountain Road intersects Burnt Hickory Road

Practice “Green Gratitude” in a May 29 nature walk near Kennesaw Mountain outside Marietta, led by two members of the CBH Green Team. Meet birder Gus Kaufman and geologist Bill Witherspoon at 9 AM to explore the rocky terrain north of Burnt Hickory Road and the forest and meadows to the south.

We will meet at the parking area located where Old Mountain Road intersects Burnt Hickory Road (Google Maps link). We should finish by noon.

Please note:

1) There are no restroom facilities. The nearest public facilities are at Park Headquarters at 900 Kennesaw Mountain Dr, Kennesaw, GA 30152, and at Kroger at 1000 Whitlock Ave NW, Marietta, GA 30064.

2) A National Park Service parking pass is required. This can be obtained at the lot, with credit cards accepted.

3) This is an easy to moderate walk of less than 2 miles (moderate due to the 200-foot elevation gain over about 1200 feet to climb Pigeon Hill). Hiking shoes are recommended.

4) Be prepared for the season – sunscreen, insect repellent, water bottle.

5) Binoculars are an advantage for viewing birds. Please let Gus know (gkaufmanjr@aol.com) by May 22 if you don't have binoculars and want to borrow a pair, so he can borrow them from Atlanta Audubon.
