Living in Community, an Adult Program

Friday, April 14, 2017 18 Nisan 5777

7:30 PM - 9:00 PMCBH

Join us for an engaging Shabbat evening where we'll focus on the importance of community for all people.

We'll hear the story of Lois Curtis. In 1999 DeKalb County native L.C. stood before the US Supreme Court to demand her right under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) to live in community rather than be "unjustifiably segregated" in institutions. Her successful argument before the Supreme Court became known as the Olmstead Decision. "Olmstead" secured Lois Curtis's place in American history as a liberator for people with disabilities and set Lois free to discover her own gifts as an artist.

Join us in witnessing the charm and beauty of this American treasure and her art as it has been captured in documentary. An abbreviated portion of the documentary The Art of Being L.C., a film by Carl King will be shown April 14th at CBH. We'll have a conversation after the movie and learn how we can support people of all abilities.
