Sunday, February 12, 2017 16 Shevat 5777

10:15 AM - 12:15 PMFriends School of Atlanta

LETS MOBILIZE.
Make a difference. Be effecitve in your efforts.

This program has two complementary parts.

1.     Effective Legislative Advocacy:  As the agenda of the new administration in the Federal and State governments unfolds, many of us are feeling an increased sense of urgency to advocate with our elected officials.  We will learn from an advocacy professional what works and what doesn’t when advocating.  Stephanie Ali, of New American Pathways will offer a training on how to advocate effectively.  The program will include information that will enable your efforts to be most effective.  You will walk about with practical information, such as DO and DON’TS, as well as the difference between advocacy and lobbying so that you can get there and make a difference.

2.       Georgia Legislative Session Update:  CBH member Ari Willis will offer a summary of what’s happened so far, and a preview of what to expect in the coming weeks, as well as who the key players are.  Education, campus carry, and public transit are already shaping up to be major issues championed by Republicans, while religious freedom, healthcare, and anti-immigrant measures have an unknown future.  Ari Willis covers the Capital for online publication Project Q, blogs for Better Georgia, and has previously reported for Creative Loafing and Rewire.  In addition to giving updates and predictions, they'll be able to answer questions about what is currently going on and provide resources for tracking the issues.

We’ll have coffee and a nosh.

Join us immediately following Family Minyan.  If you’ve got the time, participate in the family Minyan.  If you’ve never been to the Minyan, come at 9:30 and participate with the school kids and their parents.  It’s a sweet experience and a lovely way to start your Sunday.
