Bridging Differences to Win a Climate-Safe World

One possible outcome of current political upheavals could be Congress passing a price on carbon, as a market-driven alternative to Obama-era regulations. You are invited to a workshop hosted by the CBH Tikkun Olam committee, and sponsored by Georgia Interfaith Power and Light, on communicating a bipartisan solution to carbon pollution to Georgia’s Congressional delegation, and others positioned to influence them.

April 5th 7:30 – 9:00, at CBH, 2074 LaVista Road
The workshop addresses the following questions:

  • What effective plan of action could win bipartisan support?
  • Which arguments for urgent action are most persuasive?
  • How will this plan affect the economy?

This plan would collect a gradually rising fee on carbon from producers of fossil fuels, and return that money to all Americans as an equal dividend.

The chances in Congress of a solution of this type, long advocated by Citizen’s Climate Lobby, were recently enhanced by a new group, the Climate Leadership Council. Led by leading Republican former cabinet secretaries and economic advisers, it launched a similar proposal in the Wall Street Journal in February.

The presenters, Dr. Dan May and CBH’s own Dr. Bill Witherspoon, served on the founding steering committee of GIPL, which engages faith communities in stewardship of Creation. CBH was the first synagogue to join GIPL, when we created an award-winning Hanukkah compact fluorescent campaign in 2003.

Please come and bring your friends to what promises to be a lively discussion about communications that can yield results.
