Through the congregation's active TIkkun Olam committee, members of all ages work together to promote social justice and have a positive impact on all the communities of which we are a part.
The concept of good deeds - ma'asim tovim - consists of three components: tikkun olam, "the repair of the world"; gemilut chasadim, "acts of loving kindness"; and tzedakah, "righteous giving". Our work has been focused on providing assistance to those in need AND working for justice and human rights.
Some of our recent projects and activities include:
Community Service: Project Isaiah food collection for the Food Bank; M.L. King Day work detail at senior citizens' homes; collection of coats for refugee resettlement organization; providing food for the Temple homeless shelter; and packing meals for the homebound at Project Open Hand.
Social Justice: Working with the Living Wage committee to improve
salaries of the working poor; sponsoring "One for Each Night", an
award winning Chanukah guide and sale of compact fluorescent light
bulbs; opposing the passage of the amendment prohibiting gay
marriage; joining the Save Darfur coalition to stop the genocide in
Sudan; and sponsoring educational programs on the homeless issue and
home energy efficiency.
Care Team: Care team volunteers support CBH members faced with a crisis or need, such as an illness or other family emergency.
